After 38 years in public education, Elizabeth Filipe joined Timoney Knox in September 2019 as an Education Paralegal. Ms. Filipe began her career as a special education teacher delivering instruction in learning and emotional support classrooms. She developed and implemented IEPs in small, structured classes spanning multiple grade levels. Later, Ms. Filipe served both general education and special education students as a student support counselor. In that role, Ms. Filipe continued to facilitate instructional support by providing a pre-referral process to teachers while running small groups and school-wide initiatives designed to meet the emotional needs of students. Ms. Filipe then served 18 years as a certified school psychologist coordinating the transition of students from Early Intervention to School Age programming. In that capacity, Ms. Filipe frequently administered the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), becoming expert in the early identification of Autism. Ms. Filipe continues to work with students and families as a private practitioner.
As a member of the Students’ Rights team at Timoney Knox, Ms. Filipe uses her extensive knowledge of special education, child development and psycho-educational assessment to review and analyze student records, particularly evaluation reports. She provides direction in securing appropriate educational programming and services for students from the perspective of an educator and psychologist. She regularly communicates with parents regarding educational issues involving their child.
Ms. Filipe received her B.A. in Special Education from LaSalle University, M.S. in Counseling and Human Services from Villanova University, and Ed.S. in School Psychology from Immaculata University. She is the mother of two adult children and currently resides in Montgomery County with her husband.
